Sans Senja - Ultra100

This will be an ultra race that will demand a lot from its participants. The race is 100 kilometers long, and takes you from the southern part to the northern part of Senja. In total, you will ascend 4700 meters, but the highest peak is no more than 850 meters - Istinden. The first 2/3 of the route is a marked hiking trail, while in the last third you will find Sans Senja marking. After 70 km you will meet participants who run the Sans Senja Marathon, and in the last 12 kilometers you will run with participants from Skyrace. We think the fastest runners will run at an average speed of around 6 km/h.

Start / Finish
The start is Friday at 10:00pm from Senja Fjordhotell. The finish line is the pier on Husøy, probably on Saturday afternoon.

Timing / Tracking
Timing is done via a GPS tracker. It is delivered by the organizer just before the start. After the start it will be possible to follow the development of the participants on Racetracker.

Secreatariat
The secretariat is located at Sport1 Finnsnes, Amfisenteret, up to 2 hours before the start. Open Thursday 8 July from 12 noon, until 8:00pm. On Friday it is open from 9:00am to 7:00pm. After 7:00pm it will not be possible to pick up the start number for Ultra100 before 10:00pm, but then at the starting area.

Support
It is allowed to have your own support. Those who are to be support must register when they are handed out the start number. Support is only allowed to serve participants at the official checkpoints. From Stønnesbotn and into Husøy, it is allowed for support to run with the participant to the finish line.

Logistics
We are able to help with transport to the starting line from the Finnsnes area. We can also help with transport back to the start after finishing. Return to start will take place after the cut-off time at Trælvikvatnan.

Awards
All participants gets Finisher medals, as well as hot food and drinks after the finish. The three fastest men and women receive cash prizes.

Leave no trace
Since we are going to travel outside in a lot of untouched nature, we expect that everything that the participant takes out into the terrain will be brought back in, ie it is STRICTLY forbidden to leave rubbish or other stuff in the terrain. Even banana peels should be transported to the nearest checkpoint. In addition, we ask participants to show consideration if you meet animals during the race. We must not scare or chase them away. The participants should instead take a small detour.

Trail description

Part 1 – Senja Fjordhotell to Ånderdalen – 22 km
Start at Senja Fjordhotell, after a short stretch you take off on a forest road. Follow the road for 2.5 km, then it becomes a narrow path down until you enter DNT's marked route. The runners will now follow the DNT marking. After 6 km, you cross the forest border. The marking is a bit unclear in some places, and it can therefore be an advantage to have the GPS tracks easily accessible. Down towards Åndervannet you enter the forest again, but here the path is easily run. After 21 km you reach the 1st checkpoint.

Part 2 – Ånderdalen to Kaperdalen – 13 km
From the checkpoint, follow the DNT markings further north. After about 7 km on a good trail and with an easy climb, you reach the race's toughest climb up to Istinden. Above Istinden are large rocky sections that require a little concentration and careful maneuvering. Down from Istinden you come to the race's second checkpoint, over the Kaperdal tunnel.

Part 3 – Kaperdalen to Svandalen – 11 km
Here you take the shortest road towards Leirdalen, ie over Bumansheia. In Leirdalen, follow the DNT markings through Trondalen and over Spekelvaksla down to Svandalen. Trondalen is probably the easiest and fastest terrain section. From Kaperdalen there will be Sans Senja flags along the route. In Svandalen, you reach the trails 3rd checkpoint

Part 4 – Svandalen to Lysvannet – 18 km
After a short distance, and over a bridge, you turn off onto a forest road that quickly becomes a path. The path runs on the south side of Heggelva. You will cross the river halfway up the valley. It can be large, so you have to be careful not to fall. From Heggetuva it is downhill and an easy run to the Power Station by Lysvannet. At Lysvannet is the trail's 4th checkpoint. There is DNT marking along the entire route as well as Sans Senja flags.

Part 5 – Lysvannet to Stønnesbotten 15 km
From here you will run together with participants in the Sans Senja Marathon. After a short and steep climb, there is a good path. It is an easy run to Svarthollvannet, from there it is a bit uneven, with a lot of mossy and rocky terrain. After 2 km the climb up to Lasset begins and the rocky section is over. It is an easy run down from Lasset to Stønnesbotn, the last two kilometers are gravel road. The trail will only be marked with Sans Senja flags. In Stønnesbotn, the trail's 5th checkpoint is located.

Part 6 Stønnesbotn to Skarelvfjellet 4 km
After a kilometer of asphalt, the route carries out into the forest again, and the route's second toughest climb awaits, up to Skarelvfjellet. At Skarelvfjellet you will enter the Skyrace route, and probably meet Skyrace runners. Here is the trail's 6th checkpoint

Part 7 Skarelvfjellet to Trælvikvatnan 5 km
Quick descent to Keipelven. Here you should fill your bottles with water. Then it's the last real tricky part of the day, Tarbergkollen. Once you are up on it you start to see the end goal Husøy. At the end of this stretch there is a snow part down to the 7th and last checkpoint.

Part 8 Trælvikvatnan to Husøy 8 km
There is a slight incline, about 150 meters, towards Riven. From Riven there are only downhills left to Husøy. It can be a little rough the last 150 meters, so can be a little extra careful here. The last 2 km is flat, and primarily gravel road.
